I was diagnosed with Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour in August 2014 just before I was about to start my final year at University, at the age of 22.
Just hearing the word “CANCER” means your life will change forever and the future is unclear. However I battled on with finishing my Degree despite extensive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and three serious operations. I did get my Degree – 1st Class Honours! I was not going to let cancer take that away from me.
Everyone reacts differently when they are given life-changing news. I’ve always felt that you have to get on with it and beat it so that I can lead the life that I deserve. I have good family and friends who supported me throughout.
I am now 26 and three years clear.
Teens Unite have given me a huge amount of confidence. I have made new friends who have gone through similar experiences to me. Teens Unite have given me the chance to try out new experiences that I didn’t think I was able to do. Cancer left me disabled; I cannot use my right arm and have reduced lung capacity but I feel part of a family with Teens Unite who have helped me so much.
