I was 23 years old when my world got turned upside down. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Brain Cancer.
My treatment plan consisted of 2 brain surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy where I lost my hair and gained a lot of weight from steroid medication. Looking in the mirror, I didn't recognise myself. That wasn't me. That's not who I am.
My confidence was shattered and my immune system was so low that I only left the house for hospital appointments. My friends would come to visit me at home but it's difficult to understand something that you havn't been through yourself. I found myself not talking about the issues that I was going through.
Joining Teens Unite changed my life. It gave me the opportunity to meet people who had gone through the same things as me - from scars to hospital and treatment stories.
Teens Unite gave me back my confidence and helped me be me again. Attending events through the charity made me forget, even if it was only for a little while. The people I met through the charity have become lifelong friends and I couldnt have done it without this great charity.
Teens Unite helps people like me come together with others who have been in the same situation.
I have now been in remission for 3 years and still going strong. Thank you Teens Unite.
