Summer Activity Stay (TEENS EVENT)

Hertfordshire

“I have made so many friends and have felt so comfortable throughout the week. I have laughed and smiled more than I have in a long time.”

Our Activity Stay came back with a bang! After a two year break due to Covid-19, we couldn't wait to bring the young people back together for the event of the Summer, and it didn't disappoint! (Watch the video below to see for yourself!)

It was a chance for young people to come together with others their age who are also overcoming the challenges of cancer, and enjoy a four day stay away from home.

We took part in a range of activities each day, from go-karting to rock climbing, archery and boating, as well as art, karaoke and yoga.

One of the stand out events of the stay was The Apprentice Challenge; where the young people worked together in teams to design a new product. Each team was assigned a business mentor, and we were fortunate to be joined by some of the best in the business, with companies such as eBay, Bosh Beds, Pretty Lavish and HA Designs represented. They then worked with a designer to bring their ideas to life, before presenting them to our panel of judges, which included Co-Founder of Teens Unite, Karen Millen OBE, Sarah Palmer - Tesco Head Office, and Dr Anisha Patel, Trustee of Teens Unite and GP with personal experience of cancer.

Everyone achieved so much during the stay, from learning new skills, meeting new people and making new friends, testing their physical strength, working as a team, and public speaking.

Following the Activity Stay, 100% of the young people said it exceeded their expectations and 88% said they were 'looking forward to the future'.

By being a part of the Activity Stay, everyone was able to:
- Accomplish a physical and mental challenge
- Interact and socialise with others who get what they're going through
- Reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness
- Regain their independence
- Learn new skills - from art to business planning
- Feel a sense of achievement, improving self-confidence and self-esteem
- Enjoy new and exciting experiences
- Make lifelong friends
