Driving Change Beyond Treatment
Striving towards accessible, consistent and enhanced psychosocial support.
Psychosocial support should be a necessity, not an optional extra.
That's why we're working collaboratively with healthcare professionals who share this vision, to ensure that psychosocial care is implemented consistently, pathways are strengthened, and the voices and needs of young people overcoming cancer, are heard.
The 'Change Beyond Treatment Steering Group' isn’t about lobbying - it’s about taking action.
Together, we’re creating meaningful, long-term change so that every young person has access to the support they need beyond medical treatment.
Working together to transform psychosocial support
Connection sits at the heart of Teens Unite. We see every day the powerful difference it makes when young people facing similar experiences are brought together. Now, we want to create that same sense of connection among the organisations and professionals who support them - offering a space to share challenges, insights, and ambitions for the future of TYA cancer care.
We are bringing together a small, dedicated group of healthcare professionals to form our Steering Group - individuals who can offer real insight into the gaps in psychosocial support, identify areas for improvement, and shape recommendations for change based on their day-to-day work with young people and their families.
You won’t see us standing outside government; instead, we’ll act on these conversations - working as a representative network for teenagers and young adults across the UK.
Together, we’ll ensure psychosocial support is recognised as a core part of cancer care - accessible, consistent, and delivered to the standard young people deserve, so they can live positively with cancer and thrive in the years that follow.
If you're a healthcare professional that can help to drive this positive change, register your interest here.
Why are we taking action now?
Following the publication of the latest national cancer plan, the conversation around psychosocial care for young people is gaining momentum.
Our focus is to ensure this conversation is not only heard, but amplified - and directed towards meaningful, practical action that reflects the real needs of young people, not assumptions about what they need.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate, and neither should the support available.
For nearly two decades, Teens Unite has delivered psychosocial support that works in practice. We have seen firsthand what young people need to rebuild confidence, continue their education or employment, and move forward with their lives.
Now, we’re building on that experience - bringing together expertise, insight, and shared ambition to strengthen the support available to young people as they navigate the lasting mental, emotional, and social impacts of cancer.
