Remembering loved ones at Christmas

The thought of celebrating Christmas when you have lost a loved one can be daunting – whether it’s the first Christmas without them, or you have been missing them for years – Christmas can be a difficult time.

Our friends at Austin’s Funeral Services recognise this and held a very special service for families to remember and honour their loved ones, and we were humbled to be invited to join them.

The service, in the beautiful chapel at Harwood Park, was the perfect opportunity for families to come together with others and share in a very special service of traditional Christmas music; readings and poems; moments of collective reflection; and the opportunity to light a candle in their loved one’s memory.

There was a wonderful warmth in the service; it was full of sentiment and poignancy; and hope and happiness with memories of Christmas’ past, spent with those we have lost.

After the service, the families came together to share a glass of mulled wine and mince pies.

Very much like the community created by Teens Unite, young people united in their common experience, Austin’s family create another very special community, united in their common experience.

We are incredibly proud to have been supported this year by the Austin’s Charitable Fund and extend our sincere thanks to the team and all the families, who, despite their own personal grief, chose to help others through the Fund.

“those we love can never be more than a thought away…
for as long as there’s a memory, they live in our hearts to stay”
