What is it like to attend a Teens Unite Activity Stay?

"During my diagnosis I missed out on a year of school which was the year of my GCSE’s. I ended up losing a couple of friends as they couldn’t deal with me being ill. I lost a lot of confidence, especially after I lost my hair and my eyebrows. Even though I had a wig, it didn’t feel right at all.

What made me sign up for the Activity Stay was hearing from other teens about how good it made them feel and how I should definitely try it as soon as I turned 18. Before the Activity Stay, I was skeptical about the experience because everyone who had been on it kept saying how amazing it was, and I didn’t know whether to believe them or not. I was also excited to meet new people and make new friends.

During the stay I was so happy that I decided to come. I loved meeting everyone and it was definitely beyond my expectations. I really enjoyed it. Everyone was so lovely and supportive of each other throughout the entire week.

My favourite part of the Activity Stay was definitely the rock climbing; it made me push myself out of my comfort zone and it also forced me to break through a mental block which would have stopped me from pushing myself.

I definitely would recommend the Activity Stay even if it’s just to meet people. In school I probably wouldn’t talk to half the people at the Activity Stay but I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet the friends I did. By the end of the week we all felt like a big family and it was really nice."
