Lucy Completes the Virtual London Marathon!

Long-term supporter, friend, and fundraiser of Teens Unite, Lucy Kennedy battled the cold, wind and rain on 4th October as she completed the virtual 2020 London Marathon to support young people fighting cancer.

Despite the terrible weather conditions, Lucy remained in high spirits with the help of her friends from the Your Town running group who made up for the buzzing atmosphere and crowds of supporters that would usually fill the streets of London on race day.

This year’s marathon should have been an extra special, celebratory event – it was the 40th race and therefore the 40th year of inspirational individuals challenging themselves and dedicating endless hours of their time to training and fundraising for charities like ours.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s marathon saw 43,000 runners cross their own individual 26.2 mile finish line, as they were encouraged to ‘run it your way’ by choosing their own route. Lucy started and finished her race at Broxbourne Sports Club, close to the Teens Unite office, where a cake sale was held during the day to raise additional donations.

Lucy has raised an incredible amount – over £5,000!

We are so grateful for Lucy’s support, especially at a time when the number of young people registering with Teens Unite has significantly increased, yet our income has fallen by 80% due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though our workshops and activities can’t take place in person due to government restrictions and the wellbeing of the young people we support, we are still coming together virtually, with four digital sessions each week.

The funds Lucy has raised, will help us to continue uniting young people fighting cancer during this difficult time, when for many of them, they feel more isolated, lonely and unsure about the future than ever before.
