International Childhood Cancer Day 2019

Today it’s International Childhood Cancer Day where charities, organisations and individuals come together to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer and the effects it has on children and their families.

The effects that cancer has on a young person and their family can be long-lasting; we meet many young people who were diagnosed as a child but carry the social and emotional effects of their diagnosis into their adulthood.

That’s why we’re here - to offer them the support they need to rebuild their confidence, friendships and support networks, giving them the opportunity to meet others who know exactly how they are feeling and what they are going through.

This Childhood Cancer Day, we’d like to introduce you to Alayna. Alayna was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma at just ten years old. She received chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, however she sadly relapsed last year, aged 15.

Alayna has attended many of our Teens Days, where she has been able to form friendships with other young people who have had similar experiences to her own. Through attending one of our Beauty Days, she was even able to build up the confidence to attend her school prom, where she was voted Prom Queen!
