The TUI Care Foundation's commitment to support Teens Unite, in bringing together young people battling a cancer diagnosis, it's treatment and the long term effects, continues.
This month we received confirmation of their latest round of fundraising, and are absolutely delighted. The commitment of these funds enabled us to host two events in October, bringing together twenty young people. Ten young people joined us for a Pamper Day, and ten others joined us for a Cookery Day.
The two workshops are part of Teens Unite's Positive Steps program.
The Pamper Day is part of the series "getting to know me" and as well as helping to bring young people together to build social support networks, aims to help the young people understand the physical changes in their appearances, helping them deal with changes in their body shape, deal with hair loss and scarring, so often a result of cancer and its treatment. They are taught practical make up application techniques that help them to recreate eyebrows and the effect of eyelashes, often lost through treatment, as well as skin care routines, and some special pampering treatments using aromatherpy oils which help with fatigue, nausea and the relief of stress.
The Cookery Day is one in the series "my independence" and again brings the young people together, encourages them to work in teams, and teaches them practical life skills which they can use as they take steps towards independent living. At the end of this day, they all come together to enjoy eating what they have made, and with chocolate profiteroles and lemon tart on the menu, this workshop was hugely popular with Teens, Staff and Volunteers alike!
To the TUI Care Foundation and the Crew at Stansted, a HUGE thank you for your continued support of us and our work.

Detailed below are our events for Teens, Volunteers, Fundraising and Challenges.
Volunteering with Teens Unite has changed my personality and outlook on life. When I hear all the amazing things the teens say about Teens Unite, I can tell they mean every word.
Teens Unite isn't just a charity to me, it was the beginning of restarting my life.
When Elliot started receiving the support of Teens Unite, I could see a change in him straightaway. His outlook on life was becoming positive again and I gained strength from seeing my little boy accepting what had happened and starting to move forward.
I needed help and that's where Teens Unite came in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason I met Teens Unite was to save my life.
With Teens Unite, I finally realised that I could climb out of this massive hole that I had been digging because I wasn't alone anymore.
If it wasn't for Teens Unite, I wouldn't be where I am now. They have been really supportive and given me the strength to push myself and not give up.
