Teen Abby to take part in Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge

We are so excited to be able to reveal that Abby, a young person supported by Teens Unite has been selected to take part in The One Show and BBC Children in Need's Rickshaw Challenge!

At just 12 years old, Abby was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. In January 2015, after six rounds of chemotherapy, Abby was told her cancer was in remission. Just two weeks later, her life changed once again as she was told her cancer had returned and had progressed to Stage 4. Abby took part in a medical trial which included stem cell therapy; this was successful and she went into remission in October 2015.

Abby struggled with the social and emotional side effects of a cancer diagnosis alongside the physical side effects: "I was always feeling weak and I wasn’t able to be the same person I was, meaning I lost confidence and friends."

Teens Unite have had the privilege of being able to support Abby in rebuilding her confidence and uniting her with other young people in a similar situation, through our motivational workshops and activities:

"Teens Unite helped with rebuilding my confidence; I was meeting others who knew what I was going through and I started to enjoy life again."

We thank Children in Need for supporting Teens Unite in running these workshops to help young people like Abby by providing us with a grant of £27,906 over three years.

The Rickshaw Challenge will see a team of six people - all of whom have been supported by Children in Need-funded projects - embark on a cycling journey from Calais to Salford. The One Show's Matt Baker will join them on their 8 day journey, starting in Calais on 9th November and finishing in Salford on 16th November. Their progress on this incredible 423 mile journey will be broadcast live on The One Show throughout the week.

If Abby's journey inspires you, please click here to donate to Teens Unite and help us to support more young people like her throughout their battle with cancer.
