Joel Reid, 41, Ware is set to embrace the Lea Valley 50km Ultramarathon on 18th June 2022 to help us support young people fighting cancer and the lasting effects.
In this strenuous, fast-paced challenge, Joel will run 31 miles from Welwyn Garden City to the Hackney Olympic Park in Hackney Wick, East London. The route follows the scenic Cole Green Way and Lea Valley Path all the way from rural Hertfordshire to the capital.
This challenge isn’t for the faint-hearted and one that requires strict training and preparation. Whilst Joel has completed a marathon previously, this is the first Ultramarathon he has entered, and he has been putting in the miles ahead of the challenge since he discovered a passion for running during lockdown.
In April 2020, Joel was due to celebrate his 40th Birthday abroad with friends, however Covid-19 restrictions meant the trip was postponed.
Joel said: “My 40th birthday plans fell apart when the country first went into lockdown. I still wanted to mark the occasion and exercise was one of the few things we were able to do at the time, so I decided to start running. I set myself a challenge of running 100km during my birthday month, but I ended up completing 100 miles and the rest is history.”
Joel has decided to use the challenge as a way of supporting a charity local to him and we're delighted that he has chosen to raise vital funds and awareness for Teens Unite to help us make a difference to the lives of young people fighting cancer and the lasting effects.
We would like to wish Joel the very best of luck!

Detailed below are our events for Teens, Volunteers, Fundraising and Challenges.
Volunteering with Teens Unite has changed my personality and outlook on life. When I hear all the amazing things the teens say about Teens Unite, I can tell they mean every word.
Teens Unite isn't just a charity to me, it was the beginning of restarting my life.
When Elliot started receiving the support of Teens Unite, I could see a change in him straightaway. His outlook on life was becoming positive again and I gained strength from seeing my little boy accepting what had happened and starting to move forward.
I needed help and that's where Teens Unite came in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason I met Teens Unite was to save my life.
With Teens Unite, I finally realised that I could climb out of this massive hole that I had been digging because I wasn't alone anymore.
If it wasn't for Teens Unite, I wouldn't be where I am now. They have been really supportive and given me the strength to push myself and not give up.
