Following the refusal of our plans to build The House of Teens Unite in October 2021, we wanted to update our supporters on our progress since then. We have now lodged our appeal with the Secretary of State, and we have also resubmitted our revised plans to the Borough of Broxbourne Council for review.
We plan to build The House of Teens Unite on land we have acquired in Goff's Oak, Hertfordshire. It will be the first purpose-built facility in England for young people living with cancer and the lasting effects; a facility that is desperately needed to help support the seven young people who hear the words 'you have cancer' every day in the UK.
Young people, aged 13-24, will visit for day activities along with short, three-night residential stays, in a fully staffed environment. They will spend time with others their age in a similar situation, whilst learning new skills and positively challenging themselves through the different activities we organise.
We have been providing this support to teenagers and young adults fighting cancer for the past 14 years, but without a base to facilitate our activities and residential stays, we have reached our capacity for the support we can provide. The House of Teens Unite will enable us to offer greater opportunities to more young people at a time when they need us most, enabling them to continue living their years as a young adult in the best possible way.
One of the council's main concerns and reasons for refusal, was the amount of area dedicated to office space within the plans; which we have now revised and resubmitted. Our preferred option going forwards is to work alongside the council, to agree on the plans and move forward with the development.
We have been based in Broxbourne since the charity was founded in 2007; and we still remain focussed on bringing The House of Teens Unite; the first facility of its kind in England, to the borough.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported our vision and signed the petition that a parent is currently running in support of The House of Teens Unite being built.
We expect to hear on our appeal in Spring/Summer of this year and look forward to keeping you updated.

Detailed below are our events for Teens, Volunteers, Fundraising and Challenges.
Volunteering with Teens Unite has changed my personality and outlook on life. When I hear all the amazing things the teens say about Teens Unite, I can tell they mean every word.
Teens Unite isn't just a charity to me, it was the beginning of restarting my life.
When Elliot started receiving the support of Teens Unite, I could see a change in him straightaway. His outlook on life was becoming positive again and I gained strength from seeing my little boy accepting what had happened and starting to move forward.
I needed help and that's where Teens Unite came in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason I met Teens Unite was to save my life.
With Teens Unite, I finally realised that I could climb out of this massive hole that I had been digging because I wasn't alone anymore.
If it wasn't for Teens Unite, I wouldn't be where I am now. They have been really supportive and given me the strength to push myself and not give up.
