Our Activity Stay came back with a bang! After a two year hiatus due to Covid-19, we couldn't wait to bring the young people back together for the event of the Summer, and it didn't disappoint!
This year, the stay took place at a new venue for us; High Leigh Conference Centre, local to where our offices are based. The young people took part in a range of activities each day, with others their age who understand what it means to overcome the challenges of cancer as a teenager and young adult.
Over the course of four days, they took part in a range of activities from go-karting at Rye House Kart Raceway, rock climbing, archery and boating at Herts Young Mariners Base, as well as art, karaoke and yoga.
One of the stand out events of the stay was The Apprentice Challenge; where the young people worked together in teams to design a new product. Each team was assigned a business mentor, and we were fortunate to be joined by some of the best in the business, with companies such as eBay, Bosh Beds, Pretty Lavish and HA Designs represented.
After coming up with an idea, the teams worked on their business plans, created a visual of how their product would look with the help of a designer, and pitched their products to the judges. All of the ideas were amazing, from personalised wheelchair accessories, personalised tote bags and multi-wear bandanas, but the product that was crowned the overall winner was 'The World's Best Pillow' headed up by former candidate of The Apprentice, Tom Skinner.
Sitting on the panel this year, was designer and Co-Founder of Teens Unite, Karen Millen OBE, Sarah Palmer - Tesco, and Dr Anisha Patel, Trustee of Teens Unite and GP with personal experience of cancer.
The young people achieved so much over the course of the stay, from learning new skills, meeting new people and making new friends, testing their physical strength, working as a team, and public speaking.
Following the Activity Stay, 100% of the young people said it exceeded their expectations and 88% said they were 'looking forward to the future'.
We can't wait until the next one!

Detailed below are our events for Teens, Volunteers, Fundraising and Challenges.
Volunteering with Teens Unite has changed my personality and outlook on life. When I hear all the amazing things the teens say about Teens Unite, I can tell they mean every word.
Teens Unite isn't just a charity to me, it was the beginning of restarting my life.
When Elliot started receiving the support of Teens Unite, I could see a change in him straightaway. His outlook on life was becoming positive again and I gained strength from seeing my little boy accepting what had happened and starting to move forward.
I needed help and that's where Teens Unite came in. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and the reason I met Teens Unite was to save my life.
With Teens Unite, I finally realised that I could climb out of this massive hole that I had been digging because I wasn't alone anymore.
If it wasn't for Teens Unite, I wouldn't be where I am now. They have been really supportive and given me the strength to push myself and not give up.
