Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle Challenge - floating markets and a motorised sampan

Today the team’s challenge was a total of 50km, setting off during the early hours of the morning making their way to visit a well-known rice paper making village in Cai Rang and exploring the exciting floating market in a motorised sampan. To get to the village and market, the team enjoyed a scenic ride along the riverside.

A local restaurant, and delicious local cuisine were a very welcome treat at lunchtime.

After lunch, the team cycled  towards Long Xuyen and Rach Gia where they spent the evening and resting their legs after a day of humidity, sunshine and lots of cycling.

To hear more from the team make you sure you keep an eye out for our blog post later this afternoon.

UPDATE from Deb on the Challenge

"Early start today, up at 6am and all ready to leave at 7am. We boarded the bus and headed out of Ho Chi Min, and thank goodness we did – the city is so busy.

We got to our cycle starting point and everyone was raring to go. In sweltering heat, we cycled 31km through some beautiful scenery. We stopped along the way, at a school, and handed out some of the goodies donated by Anthony Charles. The children were so happy to see us and to receive these little gifts.

Back in the saddle and shortly after a stop for THE most delicious lunch at a riverside restaurant. Spring rolls, fish, pork and some delicious sauces, most welcome after this morning’s ride.

After lunch we took a short 3km ride, to the ferry and across to an Island where we took a circular 17km ride, and back to the Ferry. Then a short ride to our bus.

A welcome break for our tired legs as we drove an hour to our hotel.

Quick shower for everyone and down for dinner.

The rain that was forecast thankfully didn’t show. In fact we had so much sunshine that everyone is glowing a little. And the heat, phew! 32 degrees for much of the day, but it was a wonderful first day, with so much to see and so many lovely people that we met along the way.

We are off to have our dinner, and a nice sleep ready for more tomorrow.

Love, Deb x"
