Vietnam to Cambodia Cycle Challenge - a beautiful sunrise

A very early start for some of the team, as they drove to Angkor Wat to witness a sunrise which was out of this world.

After breakfast, back at the hotel, the team hopped on their bikes and explored the Angkor Temples. The Angkor temples are listed as one of the great wonders of the world. The temples boast a large portfolio of shrines, canals and other structures and together form an unbelievable testimony to the mystical vision and creative brilliance of the Angkor civilisation.

The team visited the south gate of Angkor Thom temple, the Bayon, and terrace of elephants . The sun was really hot, so we are really pleased that the remembered their sunscreen.

The team headed back to Siem Reap to enjoy their final dinner and watch the traditional Apsara Dance Show, Cambodia’s  royal court dance.

The team have completed the challenge today, cycling a total of 330km . This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to thank each and every supporter who took on this challenge.

A 4:45 am start for most of the team, as they have the privilege of watching the most amazing sunrise at Angkor Wat. Me, I prefer to stay snuggled in my bed, as for the first time on this trip I feel absolutely exhausted. A big thank you to the team for allowing me this little luxury.

We meet for breakfast and spirits seem a little low, was it the early start? Or the thought of this being our last day cycling?

Spirits soon rise again as we get on our bikes and start to head out of the City. It’s only 7:30 but the roads are very busy. We see some huge, very lavish hotels that have sprung up and some nice boutique type shops that show us that this country is starting to recover.

As we head out, the heat is on, it is very, very hot today and it’s hard to describe the effects that this, combined with the physical activity takes on your body.

We leave our bikes and head in to the first of the three temples that we will be visiting today – security is tight around the temple, we had to provide photo id for everyone, and as a mark of respect, we must cover our shoulders and our knees.

The second of the temples we visit featured in the film Toomb Raider, I channel my inner Angelina Jolie as we take in these beautiful sights.

This is the most amazing place and the right place to end a truly wonderful experience.

As we head back to the hotel, I reflect on the last ten days, how far we have come, how many amazing sights we have seen, how many wonderful people we have met, how close we have become as a team, and how much money we have raised for Teens Unite.

I thank all of the team, they are amazing, and all of the people who have followed our journey and supported us – the tired legs, the heat rash, the saddle sore, the mud baths, the torrential rain, it’s all worth it!

We are off to dinner, drinks and our presentations. Tomorrow we visit one of the floating villages and then head home.

Vietnam to Cambodia 2017 – thank you all – over and out
