Meet Nicki - Teens Unite Fundraiser and Volunteer

Meet Nicki - over the past few years she has dedicated the spare time she has around her role in Global Travel Management company to supporting Teens Unite. From bucket collecting in local supermarkets to volunteering at our fundraising events and Teens events, and even taking on our Overseas Challenges, Nicki has shown so much passion, drive and dedication to helping us to bring more young people overcoming cancer together. Without supporters like Nicki, Teens Unite simply would not be the charity it is today. Here's what she had to say about the incredible work she has done in support of the charity:

"I got involved with Teens Unite through a good friend of mine who is involved with the charity. It really touched me when I learned more about the amazing work they do, and why it is so important to support these teenagers and their families through this difficult time. I have two boys myself, one aged 21 and one aged 18 and, as a mother, it really brought it back to me how precious they are and what an amazing charity Teens Unite is.

Over the past 2 years or so, I have helped as a volunteer in a number of ways and always fit my volunteering around my career, which is a full on role in a global travel management company.

Last year I helped with a Cookery Experience Teens Day in London, which supported the Teens by giving them new skills, boosting their self-confidence and connecting them with other young people that truly understand what they are going through.

I do Bucket Collecting when I can, which allows me to chat to people and tell them about the tremendous work we do at Teens Unite. I also often help out on the BBQ or manage the registration desk at various Teens Unite fundraising events.

I have attended the Teens Unite Activity Stay, where I helped as a sports leader. During this week we bring a new group of Teens into our family and spend a week with them, so they can build up their support network and make lifelong friends.

As well as helping out at Teens Unite events, I have organised my own fundraising events such as a George Michael and Wham Duran tribute night, which helped to raise awareness and support for Teens Unite.

In 2017 I undertook a cycle challenge to Vietnam and Cambodia. I raised more than £3,000 in total and was privileged to meet the lovely Mikhaila and Eilish, two of our amazing Teens who cycled alongside us on our challenge. Last year I completed another cycling challenge to Costa Rica – far too hilly for me and a real physical challenge indeed, but I did it, and raised another £2,500!

I am now starting my fundraising for this year and kicking off with Never Forget – the ultimate Take That tribute band. The event is on at Hertford House Hotel in March and hopefully, it will be a complete sell out. Later in the year I hope to raise more money by joining the India Taj Mahal Cycling Challenge (I am hoping that there will be far less hills than last year!!!)."
