Costa Rica - Day 5

Day 5 marks the final day of the Costa Rica Challenge, but there's still almost 70km to go. By now, the team are exhausted but the finish line is in sight, and reading about some of the young people supported by Teens Unite spurs them on to keep pedaling through the rain for a final few hours.

For the final push of their challenge, they cycle through the San Carlos agricultural area, famous for its plantations of citrus fruit, papaya, yucca and pineapples. Most of the day is along a new paved road, so although it's another long route, it's thankfully slightly easier to navigate and endure

After five days of enduring horrendous weather conditions and tough, off-road routes the team arrive at the finish line in La Fortuna - next to the active Arenal Volcano. Feeling elated (and beyond relieved!) the team are able to celebrate this incredible achievement over a good meal and a few drinks in the town.
