Activity Stay: Cassie's Blog

My name is Cassie, I’m 18 years old and I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

My diagnosis made me miss out on a year of school, which was the year of my GCSE’s.

I ended up losing a couple of friends since they couldn’t deal with me being ill.

I lost a lot of confidence especially after I lost my hair and my eyebrows; even though I had a wig it didn’t feel right at all.

I signed up for the Activity Stay after hearing from other teens about how good it made them feel and how I should definitely try it as soon as I turned 18.

Before the Activity Stay I was sceptical about the experience because everyone who had been on it kept saying how amazing it was, and I didn’t know whether to believe them or not. I was also excited to meet new people and make new friends.

During the stay I was so happy to have come and met everyone, and it was definitely beyond expectations. I really enjoyed it. I also loved meeting other young people like me because everyone was so lovely and supportive of each other throughout the entire week.

My favourite part of the Activity Stay was definitely the rock climbing; it made me push myself out of my comfort zone and it also forced me to break through a mental block which would have stopped me from pushing myself.

I definitely would recommend the Activity Stay to other young people, even if it’s just to meet new people. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to meet the friends I did.

By the end of the week we all felt like a big family and it was really nice.
