Reunion Stay (TEENS EVENT)

Mill Hill School, The Ridgeway, NW7 1QS

The Reunion Stay was an opportunity for those who have attended our previous Activity Stays to get together, share more experiences and spend valuable time with others their age in similar situations.

It was such a memorable week, as always, and we will treasure the memories we made for such a long time! It was a week full of activities, where we made new friends and let existing friendships grow too.

We’ve been blogging every day, but if you missed it, here’s a reminder of the amazing few days we have had:

DAY ONE

On Monday 8th April, we opened the doors at Mill Hill School to over 20 young people supported by Teens Unite for our 2019 Reunion Stay! The first day was a chilled out kind of day, starting with some ice breaker games.

After dinner, Teens Unite’s Operations manager Lesley hosted a fantastic Quiz Night, in which the young people combined their knowledge in a bid to be crowned Quiz Champions!

DAY TWO

After some well earned rest, we started our second day with breakfast together before a busy day ahead.

The young people were able to learn new mindfulness techniques with Kim Leng and Matt from Hu Long Temple, who also gave a brilliant Tai Chi demonstration at the end of their workshop. Many of the young people got so much from this workshop in terms of being able to ‘switch off’ and concentrate on breathing and movement.

There was also an opportunity to get creative and discuss our exciting plans for The House of Teens Unite with our Mosaics Workshop, where the young people decorated foam bricks to symbolise the bricks that will build the retreat.

This day was particularly exciting as we were joined by I’m a Celebrity and Made in Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo and Love Island’s Alex George. They were able to meet some of the young people we support, seeing first-hand the difference they will be making by taking on our Taj Mahal Challenge this November.

In the evening, we were treated to some great entertainment from the Teens themselves in our Karaoke Night, with constant smiles and laughter throughout.

DAY THREE

Our final day on the Reunion Stay had two new workshops; a Wellbeing Session and an Upcycling Workshop with Jane and Helen from Portobello Interiors.

Our Upcycling Workshop enabled us to learn a new skill that we can use daily; whether we have old, dated furniture that needs a bit of sprucing up or manage to find some treasures in a charity shop that can be upcycled and then given a new home.  This was a fantastic skill to learn that will enable the young people to continue creating beautiful, personalised products at home – whether they want to transform something old or simply would like something different to do in between school, college, work or treatment.

In our Wellbeing Session, Teens Unite Events Executive Shelley talked us through hand massage techniques which we could practice at home. We were also able to try some therapeutic face masks, have our nails painted and also make Purple, Green and White Smoothies (in line with the Teens Unite colours of course!).

We ended the Reunion Stay with a beautifully cooked celebration meal, during which we were able to reflect on a phenomenal week of making lifelong friendships and memories.

A huge thank you goes out to all of our wonderful volunteers – Spyroulla, Grace, Viv, Nicki, Nia, Ellie, Rosemary, Aman, Beth, Emma, Kim-Leng, Matt, Jane and Helen who helped us to make this Reunion Stay an incredible experience for the young people we support.
